Crib, Bedding, and Babydoll Pajamas
Made for Baby Ellery by CarlaC
Ellery is having so much fun visiting her Grandma and Grandpa. She is getting oodles of attention and feels right at home. Even though it has been a long time since Grandma and Grandpa have had a little one around the house, they are fully equipped with all the necessities like toys, baby gates, and even a pretty little crib.
The crib is extra special because Grandma's daddy built it for her when she was a baby. She just adored the little lamb decals he put on the crib for her.
Grandma got out the family album to show Ellery this picture of herself with her little lamb friends:
My goodness, the resemblance between Ellery and Grandma is striking! Now look at this picture of Ellery's mommy in the very same crib:
When Ellery's mommy outgrew the crib, Grandma and Grandpa stored it away safely in hopes that someday she would have a little lamb of her own. Their wishes came true, and now sweet granddaughter Ellery is here and is putting the crib to good use once again.
This sturdy little crib was handcrafted by me using my own design. Lengths of basswood were meticulously cut to size and pieced together for a size that is big enough for Ellery, but takes up a minimum of display space. Sweet scalloped moulding flanks the headboard and footboard. Ball finials and feet were added to the bedposts. The crib was painted a very light pink, and the moulding, rails, and finials/feet were painted a fresh white. The base of the bed is trimmed with a ruffled pink gingham bedskirt accented with pink and white pom-poms.
Miniature reproduction vintage Meyercord decals were applied to the headboard and footboard for an authentic 50's look. Looks like Ellery loves the little lambs as much as Grandma did!
Ellery's bedding is made from a happy combination of chenille, gingham, and calico. These timeless fabrics that have been used to decorate so many little nurseries through the years. A bit of daisy lace is decoupaged to the headboard and footboard to tie in with the sweet bedding.
The pillow-top mattress is covered with an old-fashioned rose fabric. The quilted crib bumper is made of pink gingham and is trimmed with white eyelet. It is tied to the crib with tiny pastel striped grosgrain ribbons.
The 50's style coverlet is made from a velvety brushed cotton terry. A cute little chenille lamb is appliqued to the center and detailed with hand embroidery. The lamb is dancing in a field of silk ribbon roses and wearing a pretty garland. The top and sides of the coverlet are edged with tiny scale white cotton chenille.
The crib is filled with plenty of pillows. The gingham pillow is backed with chenille and has scalloped stitching on the sham. The bolster is made from white eyelet and has a band of of lacy rosebud trim in the center. The round pillow is made from pink on pink calico, edged with tiny pink pom-poms, and is embroidered with a cluster silk ribbon roses. The square pillow is made from a vintage chic hanna bella print adorned with cluny lace and a little pearl. Finally, the itty-bitty patchwork pillow is made from tiny pieces of calico and gingham.
Ellery's babydoll pajamas are also included. They are made from a lovely vintage handkerchief with perfect pink flowers and scalloped edges. The top has butterfly sleeves and a gathered neckline with a silk ribbon bow. The shortie shorts have an elastic waist and look so cute peeking out under the top.
Ellery also gets a handmade chenille and pompom lamby to snuggle. After getting goodnight kisses from Mommy and Grandma, she will fall right to sleep. She will no doubt dream the same sweet dreams that they did when they were little lambs.
