Crème Fraîche

Crib, Bedding, and Pillowcase Dress

Made for Baby Ellery by CarlaC

Mmmm, what is that wonderful smell?  Chef Daddy must be making breakfast!  Today's menu for our budding gourmand consists of crèpes with oh-so-rich crème fraîche, diced peaches and strawberries, and a little side of smoked salmon.  Bon appétite, Baby!

This solid wood poster crib was handcrafted by me using my own design.  Lengths of basswood were meticulously cut to size and pieced together for a size that is big enough for Ellery, but takes up a minimum of display space.  The crib is painted with multiple coats of a sweet cream paint to give the look of a treasured family heirloom that has been passed down through the generations.

The headboard and footboard are adorned with intricate wooden medallions.  The bedposts have post finials and ball feet.

The crib bedding was concocted from a scrumptious combination of silks, fine linens, and vintage laces.

The very Victorian "crazy quilt" coverlet features fine antique laces, swiss insertion, eyelets, voiles, and lots of hand embroidery.  It is backed with white silk dupioni, edged with a pretty antique lace
.

The pillow-top mattress is covered with a white-on-cream cotton floral print.   The crib bumper is made of ivory silk dupioni and is trimmed with a delicate vintage lace.

The bumper is arched at the headboard and embroidered with a cluster of white silk ribbon roses.

Billowy silk ribbon ties attach the bumper pads to the bed posts.
The bedskirt is made of a very lightweight cotton with an overlay of beautiful vintage lace.  Ellery likes to sit in front of her pretty crib and play with her "sock" dolly, who is made from knit fabric and is dressed in the same fine laces found in the crazy quilt.

Sweet and snuggly pillows include a white batiste pillow with a full ruffle, a lace-covered silk pillow, a round vintage eyelet pillow, and a very unique silk rose pillow.

Also included is a little boutique-style "pillowcase" dress.  It is made from vintage eyelet, and has little silk ribbon "ties" at the shoulders (but fastens easily in back with a snap).  Matching knee-length pantlets are worn under the dress, and an elastic headband with an embroidered eyelet bow is worn in her hair..
